Things You Need for the Perfect Crochet Bikini / Swimsuit 🧶

Before you go off with ANY yarn, read this first. Crochet Swimsuits require elastane for them to stretch and retract back into place.

The purpose of Swim Yarn is for it to be lightweight yet strong enough to hug your body, especially when wet!

Here are two of my favorite Crochet bikini & Swimsuit yarns:

Arrowhead Crop Top made with Cascade Fixation

Cascade Fixation Yarns is a great choice for crocheting bikinis and swimsuits due to its blend of cotton and elastic, which provides the perfect stretch and durability needed for any swimwear.

For this yarn, you will need a hook size of 2.25mm to 2.5mm. I like the crochet hooks from Susan Bates and Clover. They work really well for tighter and smaller stitches.

Alize Diva Stretch, on the other hand, is a lightweight microfiber acrylic yarn with elastane, It is a quick-drying yarn that is super stretchy, which would need some getting used to.

Another great thing about this yarn is that it has a sheer finish, almost similar to regular swimsuit material and It also offers plenty of gorgeous colors to choose from.

The best hook to use would be a much smaller hook size between 1.5mm – 2.0mm

Another thing you would need when making crochet bottoms are round faced elastic rubber band no larger than 1.2mm

Are Crochet Swimwear See-Through? 👀

Crochet bikinis & swimsuits can vary in transparency depending on the design, pattern, and thickness of the yarn used when creating a suit.

In general, crochet swimwear made from larger crochet hooks and bigger stitches will be more see-through as compared to those made from smaller hooks or tighter stitches.

It’s also worth noting the transparency of lighter color yarn and blend may vary when wet, as the fibers can become more transparent when soaked in water. But this will not happen with the yarns mentioned earlier.

If you’re still concerned about it being see-through, you can always add a nude lining on the inside of your swimwear and add cup inserts.

After Care

🫧 Always read the label on your yarn sleeve before washing. Crochet bikinis & swimsuits do not need to be blocked and ideally should be hand washed in cold water and laid flat to dry.🧼
