CONSTRUCTION

pumpkin sweater construction

This crochet sweater is constructed using the extended single crochet stitch (eSc St). This stitch not only gives you a beautiful texture but also offers a level of stretchiness that makes the sweater incredibly comfortable.

One of the standout features of this crochet sweater is the ease with which it can be adjusted to fit any adult size. This all-size-inclusive pattern provides a basic foundation that supports modifications, making it simple to increase or decrease the number of stitches and rows as needed.

The Float Method

Additionally, working on the pumpkin face using tapestry crochet comes with its own challenges. There are multiple ways to incorporate color changes and the option is yours, depending on what suits your preference.

I am using the float method because of the light-colored (and glowing) yarn, this method will ensure that the colors remain neat and tidy, without any overlapping and no loose strands visible on the reverse side.

Materials Needed

Choosing a vibrant orange color, along with contrasting shades of green for the pumpkin face just adds a festive touch to your sweater. I am using a category 4 which is a medium-weight yarn. This is an acrylic yarn that is affordable and it provides durability and warmth, making it perfect for those chilly fall evenings.

Care Tips: The best way to care for acrylic yarn is to wash it under a delicate setting using cold water and conditioner. This will give you a soft and smooth finish making your crochet garments enjoyable to wear.

I opted to use a 6mm crochet hook to prevent it from being too stiff.

Halloween-Jack-o-Lantern-pumpkin-face

The pumpkin face chart only comes in one size measured at 9.5 W x 8 H in / 24 W x 20 H cm . This tapestry crochet pattern comes with detailed step-by-step video instructions on how to create the pumpkin face and incorporate it seamlessly into the sweater design.

If you prefer to use a different yarn, the best yarn to substitute would be any worsted-weight yarn in category 4, or you could look for an alternative here at yarnsub.com to find the best match for your needs.

Tips before Starting

Here are some additional tips to ensure a successful experience before making your very own crochet tapestry:

  1. Hook Size Matters: Pay close attention to the recommended hook size in the pattern. Using the wrong size can significantly affect your gauge and, subsequently, the fit of your top.

  2. Tapestry Method: You can use any tapestry method of your choice ie: working around the other yarn color, hiding them between stitches or carrying them along the back using the float method (below), pinning them every 6 -7 stitches along the row

  3. Yarn Considerations: Consider using a medium weight yarn made ideal for the warmer weather. Here are some great substitutes to consider – Yarn Sub
  4. Slip Stitch Ribbing: When working on a slip stitch style ribbing, avoid tight stitches to make the next rows easier to work with.
  5. Customizing Your Top: Feel free to add your own personal touch. Experiment with different colors, edging, or even adjusting the length!
  6. Gauge: Always take the time to create a gauge swatch. This first step is crucial in ensuring your project size does not derail from the written pattern
