Construction
This pattern is worked top down in a simple construction of 2 matching rectangles for the body panel and 2 longer rectangles for the sleeves. This versatile design and simple pattern are easily adjustable to any size, ensuring a perfect fit for every body type.
This pattern starts off with a multiple of 4 chains to create the desired width that should fit half your bust measurement or chest circumference. You may also refer to the measurement chart below.
The sleeves follows the same pattern, starting from the width row while working towards the length, before being assembled together using single crochet stitches. Feel free to make it your own top by creating a short-sleeved crop top instead!
Whether you prefer a snug fit or a looser crochet cropped top, this modern look is easily adjustable to your size and preference. With the freedom to customize, you can ensure a perfect fit that flatters your figure. With the front panel matching the back, it makes it a great project for any advanced beginner.
The star of this pattern is undoubtedly the twist stitch made only with basic stitches, which adds a unique texture to your top.
Using a 4-row repeat pattern consisting of one row of single crochet, one row of twist stitch, a third row of single crochet, and lastly, a half double crochet – chain stitch row.
And don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar with the Twist stitch; the accompanying video tutorial will guide you through each step with ease. It consists of a group of 4 treble crochet stitches together, followed by 3 treble stitches on the top, and finished with a front post treble crochet stitch into the first stitch on the bottom row.
Once mastered, you’ll be amazed at the stunning effect it creates, elevating your crochet skills to new heights.
Using a lightweight and breathable yarn by Loops and Threads, which is a fingering weight yarn made from acrylic and nylon, this yarn choice ensures that your garment is perfect for summer wear, keeping you cool and comfortable even on the hottest days.
Another great yarn option is the Comfy Fingering yarn by Knit Picks which is a cotton yarn blend. Feel free to explore other yarn blends.
I am also using a 2.5 mm crochet hook that goes really well with this yarn weight. The best yarn weight for the perfect summer top would ideally be a category 1 or fingering weight yarn to give you that light and cool finish.
As you near completion, it’s time to add the finishing touches to the neckline and bottom edging with simple stitches.
