This Crochet “V” neck T-shirt is what I’ve been wanting to make all year long! It’s light and airy and makes for a perfect top to wear all throughout the day or night!

For this pattern, I was curious enough to try a new stitch! With one row of slip stitches, followed by another row of half double crochet between the post. And because of the nature of the stitch, your work may start to slant in one direction! LOL

I was a little nervous at first, but then I thought since I am working ” in the round” per se, then it shouldn’t really matter. 

 “So never say never until you’ve given it a shot!” 🙂

 I also decided to add some texture to this edging with some cable stitches. And it turned out amazing! Plus it’s really not as hard as it looks. I promise!

For this pattern, I am using two types of yarns. The body yarn is from Cotton Crème Loops & Threads in the Color Light Grey and the edging yarn is from Caron Simply Soft Party Yarn in the color Silver with rainbow tinsels in them 🙂

Things to Note:

§  Prepare pattern gauge to get the right size. You may need to adjust your tension or change hook size to achieve the same gauge.

§  Turning chain does not count as a stitch unless mentioned otherwise

§  Body Panel uses the Light Grey Yarn & Border Edging uses the Silver Yarn.

PART 1: Back Panel

PART 1: Back Panel

Left Panel

  1. Foundation Row: Ch 2 + 1, turn [All Sizes]
  2. Row 1:  Work a Hdc in the 2nd Ch from hook, and in the last Ch, Ch 1 turn
  3. Row 2: Slst each St, Ch 1 turn
  4. Row 3: 2 Hdc in the 1st St, Hdc bet the next post, Ch 1 turn
  5. Row 4: Slst each St, Ch 1 turn
  6. Row 5: 2 Hdc in 1st St, Hdc bet the next post across, Ch 1 turn
  7. Next Rows: Rep Rows 4 & 5 until you have a total of 17 [18/ 19/ 20/ 22] [23/ 24/ 25/ 26] Hdc set rows.
  8. From the last Hdc St Row (underarm) : Work 7 chainless foundation Hdc St [All Sizes] (Ref to Video tutorial here), Ch 1 turn
  9. Next Row: Repeat Rows 4 & 5 for a total of 1 [4/ 7/ 9/ 12] [14/ 17/ 19/ 22 ] Hdc set rows.
  10. Next Row : Slst each St, Ch 1 turn
  11. Next Row (Decrease): Hdc3tog (1st , 2nd & 3rd bet post Sp), Hdc bet next post Sp across, Ch 1 turn
  12. Next Row: Rep Steps 10 & 11 Rep for a total of 12 [14/ 15/ 16/ 18] [19/ 20/ 21/ 23] Hdc set rows or until you have 1 St remaining.

If you have 2 Sts left, work a Hdc2tog bet post instead.

13. Bind off

  1. Foundation Row: Ch 2 + 1, turn (All Size)
  2. Row 1:  Work a Hdc in the 2nd Ch from hook, and in the last Ch, Ch 1 turn
  3. Row 2: Slst each St, Ch 1 turn
  4. Row 3: Hdc in the 1st St, work 2 Hdc bet the next post Sp, Ch 1 turn
  5. Row 4: Slst each St, Ch 1 turn
  6. Row 5: Hdc in the 1st St, Hdc bet the next post Sp, 2 Hdc bet the last post Sp, Ch 1 turn
  7. Row 6: Slst each St across, Ch 1 turn
  8. Row 7: Hdc in the 1st St, Hdc bet the next post Sp across, 2 Hdc bet the last post Sp, Ch 1 turn
  9. Next Rows: Rep Rows 6 & 7 until you have a total of 17 [18/ 19/ 20/ 22] [23/ 24/ 25/ 26]  Hdc set rows.
  10. Next Row: Slst each St across, Ch 7 + 1 turn [All Sizes]
  11. Next Row (underarm): Hdc in the 2nd Ch from hook, Hdc 6, Hdc bet the next post Sp across, 2 Hdc bet the last post Sp, Ch 1 turn
  12. Next Row: Repeat Rows 6 & 7 for another 1 [4/ 7/ 9/ 12] [14/ 17/ 19/ 22] Hdc set rows
  13. Next Row : Slst each St across, Ch 1 turn
  14. Next Row (Decrease): Hdc bet the next post Sp across until the last 4th St, Hdc3tog bet the next 3 post Sp, Ch 1 turn
  15. Next Row: Slst each St across, Ch 1 turn
  16. Next Row: Rep Steps 14 & 15 for a total of 12 [14/ 15/ 16/ 18] [19/ 20/ 21/ 23] Hdc set rows or until you have 1 St remaining.

If you have 2 Sts left, work a Hdc2tog bet post instead.

13. Bind off

PART 2: Front Panel

  1. Rep Part 1 Right Panel Steps 1 – 9 
  2. Bind Off.
  3. Rep Part 1 Left Panel Steps 1 – 12 
  4. Next Row: Slst across and join the second panel. Cont to Slst across to the second panel, Ch 1 turn
  5. Next Row: Hdc in the 1st St, Hdc bet the next post Sp and across to the other panel, Ch 1 turn
  6. Next Row: Slst each St across, Ch 1 turn
  7. Next Rows: Rep Steps 5 & 6 until you’ve reached the same length as the back panel. Ending on a Hdc row.
  8. Bind off.

PART 3: Seaming Body Piece

Note: The Front body Panel will be slightly narrower than the back panel

  1. Place front and back body pieces together (WS up) and Sc the side of both panels together.
  2. Bind off and rep on the other side
  3. Sc both front and back straps together.
  4. Bind off and rep on the other strap.

PART 4: Sleeves

  1. Foundation Row: Ch 37 [39/ 42/ 45/ 51] [59/ 64/ 70] 70] , OR measure the length of the sleeve you’d prefer in inches and multiply by 3.5. Eg: 10” x 3.8 = 38 chains. Ch 1 turn
  2. Row 1: Hdc each St across, Ch1 turn
  3. Row 2: Slst across each St, Ch 1 turn
  4. Row 3: Hdc in the 1st St, Hdc bet the next post Sp and across, Ch 1 turn
  5. Next Rows: Rep Rows 2 & 3 for a total of 41 [43/ 45/ 48/ 50] [53/ 55/ 57/ 60] Hdc set rows.
  6. Fold work in half lengthwise (WS) and Sc both pcs together across stopping on the last 7th last St.
  7. Proceed to Part 5

PART 5: Assembling Sleeves (Video)

  1. On the WS, place a few SM’s along each corner of the sleeve & arm hole
  2. From your last St, fold the underarm of both pieces together, and work 6 Sc Sts on both pieces to join, then cont to Sc in the round.
  3. On the last St, Slst into the 1st St to join, Bind off
  4. Rep Part 4 & 5 to make the second sleeve and join.

PART 6: Arrow Edging Cable Pattern – (Switch to Silver Yarn) – Video

  1. Foundation Row: Ch 7 + 1 turn
  2. Row 1: Hdc in the 2nd St from the hook, Hdc 2, Ch 1, Sk 1, Hdc 3, Ch 1 turn
  3. Row 2: Sc 3, Sc in Ch Sp, Sc across, Ch 1 turn
  4. Row 3: Hdc in the 1st St, Tc in the 4th Ch on the Foundation Row – This counts as your 2nd St. Hdc in the 3rd St, Ch 1, Sk 1, Hdc, Tc in the prev 4th Ch on the Foundation row – This counts as your 6th St, Hdc in the last St, Ch 1 turn
  5. Row 4: Sc 3, Sc in Ch Sp, Sc across, Ch 1 turn
  6. Row 5: Hdc, Tc in the 4th St on the prev Sc row, Hdc in the 3rd St, Ch 1, Sk 1, Hdc, Tc in the same 4th St on the prev Sc row, Hdc in the last St, Ch 1 turn
  7. Next Rows: Rep Rows 4 & 5 until you’ve reached the total length of the front neckline and back panel (minus 1 more row) – Ref to image below
  8. Last row: Hdc, Tc in the 4th St on the prev Sc row, Hdc 3, Tc in the same 4th St on the prev Sc row, Hdc in the last St, Bind off.
  9. Make a second piece by ref Steps 1 – 8

PART 7: Sew in Edging

  1. Align the edging along the center side neckline of the front body panel with the “V” arrow pointing down and place SM along the sides to secure. 
  2. With your tapestry needle, thread yarn approx. the same length as the edging + 10” extra for good measure.
  3. From the bottom outer corner of the edging, insert your tapestry needle between the loops of the chain and thread. (See Video tutorial for ref)
  4. Then insert your tapestry needle between the loops of the chain on the body panel side and thread.
  5. Cont to insert the needle through each loop alternating bet both pieces.
  6. Once you’ve reached the center corner of the back panel, bind off

7. Align the second back body panels corner parallel to the first panel, and cont to sew the second side all the way down. Weave in tail and bind off.

Tip: if your edging is too long/ short you can undo and adjust accordingly.

8. For the next edging, just like Step 1 – Arrange the edging across and on top of the prev edging along the center side neckline of the front body panel with the “V” arrow pointing down and place SM along each side.
9. Rep Steps 2 – 6
10. Next, align the edging to the first panel and cont to seam the other side all the way down. Weave in tail, bind off
11. Sc along the bottom of the hem. Bind off

PART 8: Neckline tie

Criss Cross Crochet Tee Free Pattern

  1. Measure the neckline distance you would like each sleeve to be.
  2. Take the same amount of yarn length and multiply by 3
  3. Insert your hook at the top of the neckline, and draw up a loop from the bottom of the 3x yarn and work an iCord. – Wrap front yarn over hook, Yo with the back yarn and Pt 2. (See video tutorial)
  4. Rep Step 3 until you have your preferred length when stretched. – For ref, I have made an 8” / 20 cm iCord.
  5. Remove hook, and pull through the last iCord loop through the other side of the neckline, Ch 1 using both yarns end to close and bind off.
  6. Weave in all loose ends
