DESIGN INSPIRATION
I wanted to incorporate the heart-shaped crochet pattern into a crochet top, and by doing this I managed to achieve a lovely sweetheart neckline, making this crochet heart-shaped top the perfect Valentine’s Day ensemble.
Choosing the right yarn is essential for creating a soft and smooth garment that feels comfortable against the skin. Opting for a lightweight and breathable yarn such as cotton or bamboo can ensure that the top is comfortable to wear for extended periods.
The start of this lovely crochet heart-shaped top begins with the magic ring or magic circle technique. This technique creates a tight and seamless center for the top.
Once you’ve established the center of the top, you’ll continue working in rounds using a simple repeat pattern.
This pattern typically involves increasing the number of stitches in each round to gradually shape the top into a large crochet heart. This method allows for easy adjustment of the size of the top to fit any body type by simply adding rounds as needed.
The versatility of a crochet heart-shaped top makes it suitable for various occasions and styles. Pairing it with jeans and shorts creates a casual and effortless look, perfect for a day out with friends or a casual date.
Alternatively, pairing it with a long skirt adds an elegant touch, making it suitable for a romantic dinner or evening event.
If you prefer a laid-back vibe or a more refined aesthetic, the crochet heart-shaped top offers endless styling possibilities.

CONSTRUCTION
The construction of making a crochet heart-shaped top involves using basic crochet stitches like single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, and treble crochet stitches. It begins with the magic loop technique, forming a tight and seamless center for the top. This technique allows for easy adjustment of the size by adding or subtracting rounds as needed.
For this pattern, we recommend Lion Brand’s Coboo yarn due to its blend of cotton and bamboo fibers, providing a soft and smooth texture against the skin.
A smaller hook than the recommended size, such as a 3.5 mm crochet hook, is used to achieve the desired drape and stitch definition.
To create the straps, simple puff stitches are worked in repeat throughout the sleeves. Puff stitches add texture and visual interest to the garment while remaining easy to execute, making them perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike.
By combining these techniques and materials, you can create a crochet heart-shaped top that is both stylish and comfortable to wear.
This step-by-step tutorial is versatile and the detailed instructions allow you to customize the size and style to suit your preferences, making it a perfect project for crocheters of all skill levels.
Tips For Beginners
If this is your first time attempting a crochet garment, here are some additional tips to ensure success:
Hook Size Matters: Pay close attention to the recommended hook size in the pattern. Using the wrong size can significantly affect your gauge and, subsequently, the fit of your sweater.
Yarn Considerations: Consider using a thinner yarn or a lightweight stretchable yarn for the warmer weather. This modification allows for breathability and comfort in the summer months.
Customizing Your Top: Don’t be afraid to add your personal touch. Experiment with different colors, and yarn textures, or even incorporate stripes for a unique look.
Gauge: Always take the time to create a gauge swatch. This first step is crucial in ensuring your project size does not derail from the written pattern

Hi, I’m in the process of trying to meet gauge but I’m a little unsure since it’s 5″ by 4″. Is 5″ the horizontal measurement? Should I be getting 20 stitches in 5″? Or 4″
Thank you, it’s such a cute top!
Hi Lluvi, it should be 20 sts = 5 inches. Sts x Rows = 5″ x 4″ inches. Thanks so much! 🥰
