Spring is in the air and Valentine’s day is just around the corner. So here is a quick and easy Oversized Crochet Sweater and/or Dress to impress the best.
For me, I am a sucker for A-line dresses and this crochet sweater dress aka oversized sweater is everything I need this Spring. And did you know I only used less than *2 skeins of pooled yarn for this! (* for size M).
This pattern tutorial is also available on my YouTube channel where it is worked up in size M. However, If you would like a printable PDF copy of this pattern with no distracting ads, it is available for purchase in my pattern store. Or just add this to your Ravelry queue for later.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
Valentines Day and Spring is what’s giving me the spring in my steps. It’s so easy to wear, easy to whip up, and pretty in pink isn’t always so bad, now is it?
So, what exactly is Planned Pooling in Crochet?
Well, Planned Pooling is basically a technique where the same number of stitches per color is intentionally repeated using variegated pooling yarn to produce a specific design or color pattern.
The term pooling refers to gathering the same color/s together forming a “pool” to achieve a desired pattern or sequence.
I love me an oversized sweater that can also be doubled up as a dress. And with a little shoulder drape, heck yes, please.
And if you think this pattern is going to be hard, well here is a step-by-step video tutorial on how to pool using any stitch. And I promise, once you have mastered your tension, the rest as they say is a breeze!
And if you’re looking for another planned pooling project, then go and check out the Argyle Cardigan Jacket Free Pattern here.

CONSTRUCTION
This pattern uses the very basic Single Crochet stitch throughout the entire body piece and a pretty Paddle Stitch to finish off the edges. And while working in multiple sequences, counting each stitch is quite necessary.
Both pieces are worked up in rectangles in order to achieve the Argyle/ diamond pattern. And it also comes in 9 awesome sizes from XS to 5XL!
I have a full step-by-step picture and video tutorial here about planned pooling showing you the exact method on how to achieve the desired pattern you want, using any of your preferred stitches! However, depending on the type of yarn you use, you may need to tweak your stitched a tiny bit.
Although this pattern is suited more for the intermediate level, this video tutorial should be able to explain each step and guide you throughout the entire process.
I am using Caron Jumbo Pooling Yarn in the color Rosewood and my Mdoker 5.5mm hook throughout. Another great pooling yarn option you check out is the Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Pooling Yarn. They have many great color options to choose from!

Side Note:
Start your slip knot on any color and cont to chain the number of chains called for. (For ref I started on the Pink color before the Maroon)
Once you have reached the exact no. of chains and if it does not end on a new color, cont to add more chains to end on a new color. Your turning chain should be in the next color. (Do this for both pieces)
1. Foundation Row: Chain 71 / 79/ 89, Ch 1 to turn,
2. Row 1: On the 2nd Ch from hook, work a Sc St. Cont to Sc as per the No. of Sts per color sequence stated below.

3. Cont to Sc across the chain until you have reached 71 / 79/ 89 Sts. You might have extra unworked chains like the image below. Ch 1 (tighten this turning chain) and turn work. Undo any remaining chain(s).
